Wunderkids October Blog tour!

Hey biblio beauties!

I had the greatest pleasure of being apart of the Wunderkids October blog tour by Jacqueline Silvester, author of Wunderkids.

If you haven't heard of or read Wunderkids you're missing out on amazing book! Amazon bestselling YA author, Jacqueline's writing takes the reader by surprise and gives every reader a world of imagination in store while reading Wunderkids.

I had the opportunity to ask Jacqueline some questions and of course I couldn't pass the opportunity up!

If you could be any character in your book, who would it be and why?

To be honest, I think I would chose Sums. He is by far the most gifted character in the series.

Although, a lot of Wildwood academy students are talented, Sums is the definition of a wunderkind.

He is also kind, open-hearted, and has a great sense of humour. He did have a difficult childhood, one that I would not chose for myself,

but I think despite this fact he is very open to love (which takes a lot of courage) and he has a lot of love to give.

Sums is a genius and there are great (world-changing) things in his future. I choose him!

I also have another question that I want to incorporate that is one of my favourite and what I found to be a truly captivating line,

"Run Nikka and take loved ones with you.”

What were you thinking when you wrote this line?

This line is important on a number of levels and I’m so glad you noticed it. First of all, Magda is doing something very kind here and putting herself on the line by saying this to Nikka.

(Spoiler warning!) By the end we know she paid the ultimate price for this kindness; this quote was Magda’s undoing.

Magda is at Wildwood for a number of reasons, some of them more sinister than the rest (this is further explored in the sequel.)

We know that she came to Wildwood from eastern Europe, and even though it’s never expressly stated we can assume that she left loved ones and a home behind.

From this quote we might get the sense that Magda wishes she had taken her loved ones with her, and that perhaps she wishes she had left Wildwood when she had the chance.

This quote also reveals that Magda is aware of the horrible things going on at Wildwood, so it’s not a stretch to assume that she would like to leave that wretched place.

Of course this leads to the question- why couldn’t she leave? and what was keeping her there? but more on that in the sequel.

Magda’s backstory also has themes of displacement and loss of identity and home, just like Nikka's. Nikka has no real home, her home is where her loved ones are, and for many years her home was with Daria. This quote challenges her to think about who she wants to save, it asks her point blank 'who do you love?' At Wildwood she has grown to care very much for Quinn, Sums and Izaya, so they are the loved ones she chooses to take with her. They are now her sense of home.

Speaking with Jacqueline and connecting with her story truly makes the story come to life!
