Disclaimer- I received this book from the author/publishing company in exchange for an honest review
City of Devils is based on real people and real events, as best as can be divined from the witnesses, participants, and reports of the time. The story is drawn from a wide variety of courses both primary and secondary.
A historical truth to Shanghai, Paul French’s City of Devils is breathtaking and is written to paint the picture of the vintage capsule to be revealed before our very eyes. French takes you on a journey through Shanghai’s darkest past and to places you never thought you would see the light of day.
Introduced to Jack Riley and Joe Farren, the 1940’s were a time of war and poverty but these two men knew how to live life on the high of what was used to be their glory. I was engulfed in this captivating fact crime as French writes the best portrait of the culture in a way to demonstrate the life behind walls and the struggle of the world outside them.
I would recommend this book to those who love crime, historical and an overall amazing read that you won’t be able to put down! I rate this book a 5/5 because it simply kept me intrigued, had an amazing storyline and factual evidence to back it up. Paul French’s novel is nothing to over look! Make sure to add this beauty to your to be read list when it comes out in July 2018!
